If you’ve even glanced through our blog at all, you’ll know we work a lot with IKEA cabinets, and we really like them too!  Why?  Because you get so much bang for your buck!  We’ve tried in the past to find comparable cabinets in the same price range, and while we’ve found some that come close, it seems they are always lacking in some way or another.  With IKEA cabinets, the stand-out feature is the Blum hardware.  When it comes to drawer assemblies, sliders and hinges, Blum is top of the line, full stop!  So how do you take a great product and make it even better?  Add custom made doors!  The cool thing about IKEA is they let you buy the cabinets and that awesome Blum hardware separately from the doors.  This gives you the freedom to get your own custom made doors and take your cabinets to the next level, and that’s exactly what we did for this kitchen in Kirkland, WA.

Aside from the fact that this is an awesome looking kitchen, it’s also one of the first completed kitchens to feature our own custom doors so we’re pretty excited to show it off!

These cabinets feature a designer laminate with a weathered wood finish.  This is actually a man made product, and is about half the price of a real wood laminate, or equal in cost to IKEA’s Abstrakt line (Now Ringhult since the launch of the new Sektion cabinets).  For this kitchen, we used Abstrakt White panels and deco molding to frame the cabinets and add contrast.

One of the advantages with custom doors is grain matching or sequencing.  Notice how the grain follows through from drawer to drawer.  This really elevates the look of the cabinets.

The old kitchen was certainly not very inspiring!  This remodel actually ended up being pretty extensive.  To achieve the design the customer wanted, we ended up taking out both walls, and moving the whole kitchen into the dining room.

This allowed for a much bigger kitchen and a HUGE island.  This is the biggest island we’ve ever installed.  The cabinets measure 4’x8′ and with the overhang, the counter top is roughly 5’x9′!  The island features a full slab of beautiful White Carrara Marble.  We used a white quartz for the rest of the counter tops.

Have you noticed the plugs and switches along the back splash look a little different?  These are the adorne series outlets and switches from legrand.  The outlets actually pop out when you need them and sit flush when not in use, and the switches are touch activated.  It’s a very clean, sleek look.  I fell in love with these when we installed them in our Vashon kitchen remodel.

We really couldn’t be happier with the way this kitchen came together.  What a transformation from the original, right?!  With the kitchen done, we’re moving on to the bathrooms, so look for those in a future post!

If you’re interested in ordering custom doors for your IKEA kitchen, feel free to contact us!  We offer a full range of wood and mad-made materials, and offer custom doors, panels and drawer fronts for IKEA’s Akurum and Sektion cabinets!

    Hello,
What a beautiful kitchen! I fell upon your website while researching ideas for our own renovation (we live in San Diego, CA). It is very similar to what I have in mind already therefore so helpful to help me visualize our own kitchen. We will be using the new Brokhult (Sofielund) fronts with Ringhult (Abstrakt) sides as well as wrapping all the upper horizontal cabinet with it. For countertop I was thinking of using Cambria Torquay quartz which has a marble feel to it, similar in look to what you use for the island. My question to you: what did you use to cover the toekick? Is it stainless steel? They almost seem to disappear.
Thank you in advance. And congratulations on this amazing remodal!

      Hello,
I’m the customer for this remodel. The toe kick was the Ikea Perf stainless steel toe kick (#001.451.97). I think it’s been replaced by Grevsta plinth #202.674.23 http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20267423/
The island is a single Carrera white marble jumbo slab, back counter-tops are white quartz.
Let me know if you have any other question.
      Thanks.

Great looking kitchen! We are about to install an IKEA kitchen with a similar scale island and wondered about the supports you used to prop up the carrera (also what we’ve chosen). Are there braces underneath the stone to support the overhang for the eat-in counter? Any advice on this would be helpful for our contractors.
        Thanks!

Hi, love the kitchen! It looks great! What floor have you used? What color is it/what brand etc? I want wood flooring with this IKEA kitchen and not many look good, but yours does – so please let me know!
    Thanks

      Hi,
The hardwood floor is from Cascade Pacific Flooring. It’s called “Old Town Wirebrushed-Handscraped 5″ – Solid Oak” and the color is “Urban Barn”.
      Thanks.
