Ravenna kitchen remodel with vertical grain fir cabinets

Ravenna Kitchen

Seattle, WA

This open-concept kitchen transformation in Seattle's Ravenna neighborhood showcases our expertise with IKEA cabinet systems. We paired IKEA frames with custom rift white oak doors built in our shop, topped with grey quartz countertops, and added an induction cooktop for a modern cooking experience. The result is a warm, functional kitchen that feels completely custom.

Project Details

The heart of this project was proving that an IKEA kitchen doesn't have to look like one. Because the cabinet components are sold separately, we were able to pair sturdy frames with custom rift white oak doors and panels from our shop — creating a look that's indistinguishable from high-end custom cabinetry at a fraction of the cost.

We built the island with site-made open shelving using stock cover panels, and added a built-in wine rack for extra function. The countertop microwave was given a seamless built-in look by cutting a precise opening in one of the custom doors — a simple hack that makes a big visual difference. For even more storage, we modified standard frames down to just six inches wide to create dedicated pull-out spice racks fitted with Rev-A-Shelf inserts.

The stainless steel undermount farmhouse sink was another custom touch. Installing it meant cutting down the top of the cabinet so the sink is supported by the cabinet walls, giving it a clean, integrated look that's far more convenient than a top-mount option. White oak hardwood floors and grey quartz countertops complete the palette, and because the IKEA cabinet system kept costs down, the homeowners had budget left over for the premium appliances they wanted.
