Vashon kitchen remodel with vaulted ceiling and exposed beams

Vashon Kitchen

Vashon Island, WA

This complete kitchen transformation on Vashon Island is one of our most dramatic projects. We removed the flat ceiling to reveal the roof structure, then framed a stunning vaulted ceiling with exposed beams and tongue-and-groove cedar planking. The kitchen itself features white shaker cabinets, a wood-topped island, and modern farmhouse finishes that complement the architectural drama overhead. From structural framing to final fixtures, this project showcases the full range of our team's capabilities.

Project Details

This Vashon Island kitchen was one of our most ambitious projects — a complete gut renovation that started with the ceiling and worked its way down to the floors. The original kitchen was a cramped, dated space with a low popcorn ceiling that made everything feel closed in. Our clients wanted to open it up dramatically, and that's exactly what we did.

The biggest challenge was structural. We removed the old ceiling trusses to vault the ceiling, working in careful sections to maintain the home's structural integrity. New posts and cross-tie beams were installed every four feet to carry the roof load. With the framing open, we coordinated with our electrician and plumber to run all-new wiring and plumbing before closing everything back up with fresh insulation and drywall. The homeowners chose tongue-and-groove cedar planking for the vaulted ceiling, which gives the space a warm, cabin-like character that pairs beautifully with the exposed beams.

With the dramatic ceiling in place, the rest of the kitchen came together with a modern farmhouse aesthetic: white shaker cabinets, wide-plank engineered hardwood flooring, and engineered quartz countertops. Vintage-style pendant lights and a crystal chandelier over the island add a touch of elegance, while black cabinet hardware keeps things grounded. The finished kitchen also happens to look out onto a stunning view of Mt. Rainier from the deck — not a bad spot to cook dinner.
